WFTD: The Lord, Our Strong Tower

1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

Many of us as believers go about our days without realizing that we have a very real and present enemy.  From the Bible, we know that were it possible, Satan would lead astray even those chosen by God for righteousness to be heirs with Christ.  We know that our personal sinfulness is fertile ground for our enemy to attempt to convince us of lies – to tell us that Christ is not enough or worthy of our praise in joy.  So what are we to do when tempted, or when life is a struggle?  Well the one offensive weapon described in the Bible (as a sword) is the Word of God itself.  Be encouraged.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 – “Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Proverbs 18:10 – “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

Joshua 1:9 – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 – “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

When we are tempted, or encounter trials in life – know that you are never alone, God is always with you.  I hope these verses are an encouragement – there are many more that point to the faithfulness of God in all things, especially towards His children.  Memorize them, and write them on your heart, so by the Word of God, you will take Him with you wherever you go, and you will know that you are never defenseless in your daily battles.

Grace and Peace,
Adam
